Activities in Coronado Guide

Check Out These Amazing Activities in Coronado

Visitors and residents alike come to California’s coastal towns to rest, relax, recharge, and enjoy the ocean, beaches, and all the fun activities the west coast has to offer year-round. While many visitors will dress in bathing suits and gather beach gear for a day full of water adventures like kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, fishing, and more, some keep their feet firmly planted on the ground building sandcastles, strolling the beach, or experiencing everything Coronado has to offer. Land or sea, there are plenty of activities in Coronado to fill your time.

Fishing

No matter what time of year you’re here, the fishing is some of the best you’ll find in the world. Different fish favor the waters off Coronado at different times of year, so make sure that you check your local fishing report for the most up-to-date information on what’s biting where before heading out.

Dock & Dine

When your stomach rumbles while you’re out on the water, take advantage of the many Coronado restaurants that allow you to participate in the unique “dock & dine” experience. You and your crew to pull up to the dock and enjoy great food and drinks, sometimes right on board your own vessel! Those who don’t want to miss any time out on the water can make a to-go order and have a delicious fresh meal aboard as you head out to sea again.

Coronado Beach

Set aside some time to hit the beach that bears the name of the town. Coronado Beach and its pier are the perfect places to hang out and enjoy sun and fun. Pack up your beach gear and head out for a day on the sand. Play in the waves or on the sand as an alternative to being out on the water. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy it on the shore.

Coronado Island Segway Tour

Explore a different way on a morning or afternoon tour. The tour starts in the historic Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego, cruises the waterfront, and onto a ferry across San Diego Harbor to the island. Make sure to bring your camera for shots of breathtaking scenery and historic landmarks like Hotel del Coronado.

Coronado Ferry Landing

A popular tourist spot full of shopping, dining, and entertainment. Many of the restaurants offer dock & dine opportunities with picturesque views of San Diego Harbor from harborside patios. Start off a bike or kayak tour of the area where you’ll see landmarks like the USS Midway, Petco Park, and Naval Station North Island, among others. Shop local boutique stores for the perfect Coronado souvenir.

Lamb’s Players Theatre

One of San Diego’s leading professional and non-profit performing arts companies presents shows year-round in the iconic Spreckels Building. The theatre is currently celebrating 50 years of shows. Check their website for what’s playing and to get tickets.

Parks

While many will head to the beaches and waters of Coronado, there are parks and green spaces further inland. Spreckels Park, Coronado Tidelands, Centennial, Glorietta Bay, and others offer open green spaces for fun activities that don’t include water. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy it under a tree or at a picnic table or park bench. Each park has its own rules and regulations for pets and activities.

Spa Day

Get all the rest and relaxation you’re hoping for on your Coronado respite. There are local spa and salons ready to pamper every inch of you. Enjoy a mani/pedi, body scrub or wrap, facial, massage, or other treatment. Some offer packages for couples and will help you create a day full of personalized relaxation and rejuvenation any time during your trip.

Cruise the Water

Take the helm yourself or charter a sunset cruise of the area. There are several charter boats that will take you SCUBA diving, snorkeling, marine life spotting, and more. Take a daytime or sunset cruise and make sure to bring your camera. For charters, ask about on-board food and beverages.

Water Activities in Coronado

As with any coastal town, the sand and water activities are endless in Coronado. Carefree Boat Club offers gear for the water activity of your choice. Fishing, snorkel, and SCUBA gear is available for undersea adventures, and wakeboarding, stand up paddleboarding, surfing, and other above-water activities are available too.

Avoid the hit-and-miss availability of small rental companies, as well as the hassles like storage, maintenance, trailering, covering, cleaning, or extra fees like insurance and mooring that come with owning and transporting your own boat. Reserve a boat and it will be ready for your use each time you show up at our marina during your reservation period.
