Although the answer may seem quite obvious, there are many reasons why spending Valentine’s Day on a boat is a truly excellent idea and we at Carefree Boat Club want to share some of our favorite ones with our guests. The beauty of the sea, the romance of spending dedicated time with your Valentine, and the stunning power of the boat that will take you on adventures you never forget. This guide to all the reasons will help you plan a holiday escape that will bring your relationship to new levels of wonderful!
The Majesty of the Whales and the Friendly Charm of the Dolphins
Prime whale viewing season falls between December and April, and if you have never seen a whale breach the waters, this day will be a perfect one to share the adventure with your sweetheart. The best place to view these majestic creatures is just off the shoreline of La Jolla, outside of Torrey Pines State Park. Dolphin cruises are popular Valentine’s Day activities and because you are a member of the Carefree Boat Club, you don’t have to share this experience with a crowd of strangers, you can enjoy it with the one you love most. Dolphins can be viewed year round in San Diego, but November through April is when they are most active with mornings and evenings being the best time to watch them play.
Romantic Restaurants that Offer Dock and Dine
The Valentine’s meal is a tradition that doesn’t have to be skipped just because you are a boat in the middle of the sea, many of San Diego’s best restaurants allow guests to dock nearby, enjoy a wonderful and romantic meal and sail away after. Perhaps one of our favorite places for dock and dining is on Coronado Island, where guests can dock at the Coronado Ferry Landing and have access to about 10 different restaurants, including Peohe’s. Enjoy a taste of the islands as you sit, savor the views of the water, and sip the cocktails they are known for. Their dessert menu is an expansive one and since this is a Valentine’s Day dinner, we suggest saving room for their Chocolate Ripple Mud Pie, delivered with 2 spoons and more opportunities for romance.
The Sea Calls for a Valentine’s Day in San Diego
Of course, the best way to enjoy Valentine’s Day in San Diego on a boat is by never leaving the sea, exploring the beauty of “naval” life as you enjoy the company of that one special person. Even if your hobbies are different, for example, you love reading, she loves fishing, the boat will still be the place to let you both enjoy your obsessions. Our fishing boats are comfortable, but you can fish from the deck of any boat you like, including the cabin cruisers that are the most comfortable of all. You read, she fishes, and as your love nest on the sea bobs in the waters, the chances for an impromptu nap may be high.
Picnic on the Water
Continuing with the staying on the boat theme, a picnic is always a good idea, so pack a cooler with your favorite sandwiches, a bottle of wine, and, of course, something chocolate because is it really Valentine’s Day if there is no chocolate involved? If you forgot the most important ingredient to your romantic meal at sea, no worries, the Chocolate Haus in Pacific Beach (947 Turquoise Street) offers ice cream, candy, and hand made chocolates that will never fail to please.
The Sunset that will Never be Forgotten
We’ve offered quite a few reasons a boat ride for Valentine’s Day is the best idea and as your day of exploring hidden coves as you picnic and share secrets, hopes, and dreams with your human, draws closer to its natural conclusion, the top reason begins to become very evident. The shadows grow longer as the sun begins its inevitable descent into the blue waters and wherever you may be, it is important that you stop, drop anchor, and watch the incredible display. The golden orb sets the sky on fire, shooting out shades of magenta, gold, red, and violet, and as the rays shine down on the one you love more than peanut butter and jelly, the moment will be one you never forget. If you want to make your Valentine a permanent member of your family, a sunset proposal is almost never rejected!
