Visitors and residents alike flock to California’s coastal towns for a restful and relaxing escape to recharge in the year-round warmth and sun. Enjoy fun in the sun and on the water and make a list of the best things to do on your boating vacation. Boaters will love making some of the top boating events in Coronado of the year a part of their Coronado boating retreat in 2024.
Bart Hall Sports Show
Formerly known as the Fred Hall Sport Show, the show debuted its new name: Bart Hall Sports Show, last year. The new name doesn’t take away the fact that it’s the longest running, oldest on-land show in San Diego. See vessels, and choose from the largest selection of fishing tackle, destination travel exhibits, as well as hunting and shooting exhibits. The event is fun for all ages, and also includes a long list of seminars and free activities to enjoy. This year’s show takes place February 15-18, 2024 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd in Del Mar.
Coastal Social 2024 North Tournament
The Coastal Social organization hosts tournaments in both San Diego and Long Beach as an effort to bring fun and engaging fishing activities for all ages to Southern California. The organization focuses on conservation efforts, and each event’s participation fees go toward their work, like angler rights, fisheries research, fish tagging, rebuilding with artificial reefs, and more. Events do not have a cash payout, but sponsors offer unique and generous prizes for winners. The 2024 San Diego event takes place April 13 at the 22nd Street Landing in San Diego. CCA member entry is $50, and non-member entry is $90. There are divisions for boaters as well as kayakers.
Day at the Docks
Considered a San Diego sportfishing tradition throughout the years, it’s also the West Coast’s largest public celebration of the activity. The show marks the start of California’s saltwater fishing season, and highlights some of the best of the best in the sportfishing boat fleet on San Diego Bay and in the surrounding area. Enjoy fishing seminars, a kids’ fishing adventure, casting contests, and more during the event. Go for a boat ride around the bay or explore the boats during the boat “open house.” This year’s event has not yet been scheduled, but it typically occurs in March.
San Diego International Boat Show
If you were in the market for a new vessel yourself, or just want to see what might be coming to the inventory at the Coronado Carefree Boat Club, shuffle the show into your boating vacation plans. You’ll see over 150 vessels from over 30 boat builders and brokerages. Get the first look at luxury yachts, powerboats, and others, all with the latest maritime technology. Explore the many “on-land” vendors offering some of the newest ways to outfit a vessel. The show is slated for June 20-23, 2024 at 955 Harbor Island Drive in San Diego. Admission prices are to be determined.
San Diego Bayfair
Taking place on the nearby waters of Mission Bay, it’s the region’s largest annual land-based beach festival, with a powerboat competition on water as a main attraction. The festival celebrates boating with live music, vendors, and some of the fastest powerboats in the world. This year’s event takes place September 13-15, 2024.
Dock & Dine
When your stomach rumbles while you’re out at sea, take advantage of the many Coronado restaurants that participate in the unique “dock & dine” experience. You and crewmates pull up to the dock and enjoy great food and drinks, sometimes right on board your own vessel! Crews that don’t want to miss any time out on the water can make a to-go order and have a delicious fresh meal aboard on the way out to sea.
Coronado Art & Wine Festival
Boaters who are also fans of fine art and wine will want to schedule their boating adventure for early May. Discover Coronado is the title host of the 2024 festival. Proceeds go toward funding STEM and arts opportunities in the Coronado Unified School District. The event spans multiple city blocks, with its showcase of local artwork, delicious wines, food pairings, and even live music and other performances. The 2024 festival will be held May 11, 2024.
Plan a Boating Event Adventure in Coronado
Have your boating bases covered during the next Coronado boating event – along with some others you might not have thought of with a membership to the Carefree Boat Club. We have the boat you need when you need it. Avoid the hit-and-miss availability of small rental companies, as well as hassles like storage, maintenance, trailering, covering, cleaning, and extra fees like insurance and mooring that come with owning and transporting your own boat. Reserve a boat and it will be ready for your use each time you show up at our marina during your reservation period.
