From a navy blazer to a crisp, white hat, there are many stereotypes for the boating industry’s fashion trends. But just what is the ideal outfit to wear on the water? Think practical layers, slip-resistant shoes, and remember the motto – comfort is key!
The first boating apparel essential is a thin, windproof jacket. We recommend nylon windbreakers, which are also water resistant. While you’re on the water, temperatures can change drastically. Be sure to wear a few layers underneath your jacket in preparation for the varying weather.
For your bottom half, steer clear from cotton clothing. You want to be sure to wear something that will wick away moisture in the event the seas are a little more turbulent than expected. Wearing garments that are breathable and wick water away will make for a less wet, more enjoyable boating outing.
Choosing the appropriate shoes is extremely important. Think sneakers, or even better, actual boating shoes. High-grip footwear is essential for when the boat deck gets wet. Never wear street shoes on a boat, grips on the bottom are almost nonexistent!
Don’t forget to accessorize! Pack a hat, sunglasses, and even a lanyard to secure them. Apply sunscreen about fifteen minutes before dock departure and reapply it throughout your trip.
Last but not least, a life-jacket should be worn regardless of your level of experience on the water. Even the best swimmer can run into a life threatening situation. Take that extra step for the safety of you and your loved ones.
