When cooking up the perfect holiday celebration in San Diego there are only a few ingredients you need to enable you have the best holiday ever, starting with the Carefree Boat Club boat of your choice. Maybe this year it will be a pontoon boat, large enough to hold more friends and family while offering comfort to your adventures. Or maybe this will be the year you choose one of our fishing boats, heading off to your favorite spot to wet your line and catch your limit. The list of boats we offer is a long one and the supply we offer will ensure that even on a busy holiday you will be able to easily pick the boat of your choice.
Stock Up on Supplies
The next ingredient for this recipe for fun is a cooler filled with your favorite foods and beverages, ensuring that you won’t need to leave the water until your day ends. Sunscreen and sunglasses are recommended to be included in your boating supplies especially as the California sun shines brighter over the ocean. All the supplies you need for safety will already be found on the boat, including life jackets for all boaters.
A Sense of Adventure
This last ingredient is perhaps the most important, and as your compass leads you to adventures you will never forget, perhaps you will find yourself at some of these events we have listed below, living it up both on water and on land.
• Explore Balboa Park – Larger than many American small towns, Balboa Par is reachable by water and can provide an entire week’s worth of adventures, ensuring that you won’t see it all in one day! Museums, gardens, and hiking trails will keep you so busy you may not get to spend as much time on your boat as you like, but that’s ok, Memorial Day weekend is 3 days long and you probably have reservations for all three days.
• Dock and Dine at Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern, 4990 N Harbor Drive – You may have brought a cooler filled with food, but enjoy that at lunch and dock and dine at Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern at least one time over the weekend. The menu is filled with all-American classics, including burgers, fried chicken, and sandwiches that are hearty and delicious, and because it is located near the Dana Point Harbor, it is easily accessible.
• Ride the Roller Coasters in Belmont Park, 3146 Mission Boulevard – Experience a piece of San Diego history with a visit to Belmont Park in Mission Beach. Built in 1925 and still offering its original wood roller coaster, the amusement park offers a fun way to fill some hours off the sea.
Can’t Bear the Thought of Leaving the Water?
The adventures you can have without leaving the boat may be all you seek, and even if you do nothing more than point the boat towards the horizon and ride the waves all day, the good times will be endless. The sun is shining, the skies are blue, and it is blue whale season from May through August, so maybe you will find yourself in the right spot at the right time and will be able to experience a whale breaching the waters for the very first time. The waters around Cabrillo National Monument offer the best spots for whale watching and you will be the lucky one, experiencing it from the water while most people will not get closer than watching from Whale Watch Lookout Point on land.
Memorial Day Is for the Heroes
Memorial Day is also a good day to make your way to the USS Midway museum, honoring the heroes who sacrificed everything so all Americans can continue to live free. Located at 910 N Harbor Drive, if you haven’t visited before you may not realize that the museum is actually an aircraft carrier that guests can explore.
