Let’s Talk Fish
If this is your first time fishing off the waters of Newport Beach, you may be wondering what kind of fish you can expect to catch, and even if you already know, it will still be fun to hear it all again. Calico bass, of course, are inshore fish that are heavily regulated, so your catch of the day will have a limit of five per day. California halibut are probably your favorite option for dinner fish and are large and plentiful. Average weight runs about 25 pounds, but some as big as 67 pounds have been caught in the area, so who knows? Maybe you will be the lucky one! In deeper waters, from March through November, yellowtail amberjack will bring you joy and during the summer months? Head towards Catalina Island and catch your limit of yellowfin, bluefin, and albacore tuna!
