Here in Hampton Roads, we live in one of the best boating playgrounds in the world! There are so many reasons to go boating and explore on-the-water activities like watersports, day cruising, fishing, and so much more. At Carefree Boat Club, we give you a variety of boats to be able to do all of the above!
Boating, just like driving, comes with certain inherent risks. However, such risks can be avoided as long as you are careful, knowledgeable, and well-prepared. It’s important to have properly functioning safety equipment and a proper float plan so you can have a safe and enjoyable experience out on the water.
One of the most important things to do before you leave the dock is a proper inspection of your boat and a proper float plan during our checkout process. The Float Plan starts with the basics: phone numbers to be called if the boat is overdue, a general idea of where you’re boating for the day, knowing where all your safety gear is located, making sure the anchor is accessible, etc. One of the benefits of Carefree Boat Club is our variety of boats, but that means safety equipment will be in different places on each boat! Proper checkout procedures before each trip ensure members have – and know how to access – all safety equipment onboard their vessel.
A float plan also lets us know your whereabouts, and, should there be an issue on a trip, the plan will help the dock staff or the Coast Guard locate your boat. This would be important if you owned your own boat too! At Carefree Boat Club, this is how we do it and why we do it the way we do. Our focus on boating safety is not a one-time thing. It is an important, ongoing practice that receives ongoing focus at all levels within the Club.
We hope you will help us keep you safe and practice safe boating activities!
