Not every Spring Break has to be about wild parties at loud nightclubs and days after filled with hangovers and exhaustion. Some of our favorite Spring Break vacations have been the ones we have spent on the waters that surround our San Diego homes, drinking in the serenity, pitting our wits against the fish in the sea, and watching dolphins frolic happily in the surf. If this sounds like your ideal Spring Break and you are one of our treasured members of the Carefree Boat Club, this guide to spending your San Diego Spring Break vacation on a boat will give you a sneak peek into the beauty of doing things your own way!
Not a Member Yet?
Before we get started on the joys of vacationing at sea, let’s take a moment to discuss the benefits of membership in the Carefree Boat Club. It’s a simple concept, one that helps eliminate the priciness associated with boat ownerships while still allowing sea lovers the opportunity to be on the water as often as possible. After paying a reasonable initiation fee, there is an annual fee that can be paid in one payment or split into monthly payments, and you will officially be a member. From this moment on, you can put your name on the books, reserving up to four slots at a time (when you use up one, you can immediately add another!) and we take care of everything else. Choose from a large selection of boats, call the dock master at any time to see if there are any spur of the moment reservations available, and never have to worry about maintenance, boat slip costs, or insurance ever again!
Now Let’s Get This Cruise Started
Now that we have convinced you that being a member makes sense, it is time to set sail. (Yes, we offer sailboats too) Whether you have a plan to visit specific places or just want to go where the winds take you, these relaxing moments will refill the coffers of your soul, preparing you for the sad moment when Spring Break is over and the real world so rudely intervenes once again. Only you know what your plan for the days will be, but for those who are undecided, we have a few suggestions listed below.
Catch Your Limit On a San Diego Spring Break
Our fishing boats are equipped with the latest in fishing equipment, including sonar and GPS, so feel free to take them out on the deep waters to catch your limit of big-game fish. March (when most Spring Breaks take place) is a great month for catching the colorful vermilion rock fish, white sea bass, and calico bass. If your break begins in the first half of the month, it will still be lobster season and in the deepest of waters, it is the beginning of bluefin tuna season, ensuring that your catch will impress all your friends that chose Disneyland for their Spring Break getaway!
Spend the Night at Sea
What most people do not realize is that our boats can be used overnight, with some extra instruction and guidelines, so feel free to sign up for an overnight trip during the week. If you have never done this before, we can happily tell you that the sleep you will experience will be deep and blissful, and that the feeling of the boat bobbing in gentle waters will remind you of being rocked to sleep as a child. The Paschal Moon, March’s full moon, rises on March 25th and is truly a magnificent sight when viewed from the deck of your Carefree Boat Club vessel, so we sincerely hope that this will be the year you get to experience it.
A Party on the Sea
Of course, if you want to celebrate your freedom from the work or school world, choosing a Pontoon boat will allow you to take the party with you. Offering enough room for friends and coolers filled with beverages and food, there is no greater joy on earth than skimming across the waters with friends and family, feeling the sun beating down on your shoulders (awnings can help shade sensitive skin) with music playing and laughter floating through the air. Just remember that boat laws are similar to driving ones, so you might have to be the DB (designated boater!) and abstain from drinking.
