As we dive deeper into the crystal clear waters of summer the holidays make our time at sea even more special! These bonus days, Memorial Day, Juneteenth (for our Federal Government workers), the 4th of July, and Labor Day, stretch out before us in a not-so-endless array of minutes just waiting to be filled with fun and relaxation. Carefree Boat Club members know that the secret to the perfect holiday, however, is by becoming a member of the club! And if you haven’t become a member yet, it isn’t too late to do so before the next big day arrives, ensuring that you can have a day filled with red trim on your white boat under blue skies! The most American of all holidays, America’s birthday promises to be the best birthday when celebrated from the helm of one of our Carefree Boat Club seafaring vessels of your choice. This guide to the fun you can have and the places you can go when you play Captain on the waters that surround our San Diego hometown this 4th of July in San Diego!
Spend the Day with Family & Friends
Our boats come in a large variety of sizes and styles and for an all-day picnic with the family, your best choice may just be a pontoon boat! Offering room for your entire family, plus a few good friends, the birthday party you throw for our nation is destined to be one remembered for years to come! Spend your day going from port to port, exploring the 4th of July all over San Diego and the surrounding towns, and discovering once again why this summer holiday is your favorite! Diving off the front for a quick dip in the sea, anchoring in a quiet cove and turning on the music for a dance party to your favorite songs, and just rejoicing in the freedom of a day meant to celebrate freedom; your Carefree Boat Club pontoon boat is destined to be an integral part of the celebration!
From Point to Point This 4th of July in San Diego
While pontoon boats are meant to be a more leisurely choice of transportation, some of our guests get to the point types that although they enjoy the feel of the wind on their faces as they skim across the waters, they definitely prefer their boats to get them from point A to point B. Our cruisers or Bowrider vessels may be the ones you want to choose if this is your celebratory preference, taking you everywhere you want to be, quickly and efficiently. Zip across the waters for an all-American meal at Tom Ham’s Lighthouse, perhaps starting your 4th of July lunch with their Sweet Petite Martha’s Vineyard oysters on the half shell, washed down with an icy cold beer. Dinner at the Water Grill is a sophisticated affair, featuring more of your favorite seafood and a comfortably charming décor that completes your dock and dining experiences!
This Way to the Ferris Wheel
Even as you spend a lot of this beautiful holiday on the water, you may want to make your way to the Del Mar County Fairgrounds for the San Diego County Fair! Back again after a pandemic hiatus, this year’s theme is Heroes Re-Unite (perfect for the day being celebrated) and offering everything fun and fair-tastic! Ride the Ferris wheel at sunset, eat all the cotton candy you can stomach, and wait till nightfall for the fireworks display that will certainly be enjoyed even more if you get back on the Ferris wheel to watch them! And when it’s time to bid farewell to the fair, there will be no sadness because you know that the day’s journey has not ended; you still have a boat ride home, enjoying the ethereal glow of the waxing crescent moon reflecting off the murky waters at night!
Red, White, and Boom!
The last couple of years has taught us that while we can still celebrate the 4th of July without fireworks, celebrating with them is so much better and this year, the fireworks displays are designed to be bigger and better than ever, ensuring that even as you drop anchor in the waters, your Carefree Boat Club vessel bobbing in the waters of San Diego, you are bound to enjoy more than one show, simply by looking in all directions! The Big Bay Boom, starting at 9 PM is visible from Shelter Island, Harbor Island, and Coronado Landing so pick your point and prepared to be awed! Other fireworks shows in the area include the Independence Day Fireworks Spectacular at SeaWorld, 4th of July Fireworks off Ocean Beach Pier, Fireworks over Glorietta Bay on Coronado, and Historic Old Town 4th of July where the celebration will last all day, ending with a glorious fireworks show!
