Point Loma Harbor Day 1
Point Loma Harbor is the perfect place to begin your weekend of boating fun, especially if you’re a traveler that’s excited to try or continue a tradition in angling. The waters that surround Point Loma are teeming with a variety of species that are sure to thrill from Yellow and Bluefin to Albacore, Marlin, and Mahi-Mahi just to name a few. Pick up your already reserved Sea Fox 228 Commander or similar vessel when you’re ready to get out on the water and see what catch the day has in store. This vessel is equipped with a 30-gallon bait tank and 17 rod holders, making it the ultimate model for a thrilling day of casting a line. Once you’ve had your fill of fishing fun, take some time to sail by the iconic Point Loma Lighthouse situated on the peninsula at the mouth of the bay. Dating back to the early 1850s, this lighthouse stands 46 feet tall and is a must for the traveler with a heart for history and maritime culture. When your day of fun has left you with an appetite to attend to, drop your vessel back at the marina and head over to Mitch’s Seafood which is found on-site at the marina. Here, you can savor sensational fresh-caught fare and take in waterfront views to end your day on a tasty note.
Day 2
On the second day of your boating weekend, swap out your fishing vessel and reserve a party boat instead! Carefree Boat Club houses a number of pontoons that are made for fun on the waves with family and friends but nothing says excitement quite like the Avalon Catalina Funship 26. This vessel is a party on the water from the moment you step onboard thanks to its’ amazing sound system, wrap-around couches, and top deck for dancing, sunbathing, or jumping into the water! Whether your party on the water includes tubing or is more of a dance and drink affair, the waters just off the marina will provide the perfect view to accompany your event. When you’re ready to take a more restful moment, head over to Cabrillo National Monument and take time to admire the structure as well as earn more about its history. Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern is the best way to top off your second day and provides a waterfront view with options to indulge in sandwiches, burgers and beer.
Day 3
Make it a leisurely morning on day 3 and when your hunger gets the best of you, head over to Stars and Stripes Deli where you can savor the flavors of mouthwatering sandwiches paired with delectable sides at your convenience. Today, pick up your comfortable and sleek pontoon and enjoy calmly sailing around the many thrilling cliffsides that define the shoreline near and around Point Loma. This is a wonderful opportunity for aspiring and experienced photographers to put their skills to use and important time set aside to simply admire the view from a vantage point on the waves. The Point Loma tide pools area also a great destination worth checking out while you’re out sailing around, and will round out your boating weekend nicely. Tide levels are always available to be checked online prior to your day’s adventures in the event you’re interested in hopping out and getting a closer look.
