Fishing Guide to Pier 32 in San Diego

Fishing Guide to Pier 32 in San Diego

Visitors and residents alike come to California’s coastal towns to rest, relax, recharge, and enjoy the ocean, beaches, and all the fun activities the coast has to offer. While many visitors will dress in bathing suits and gather beach gear for a day on the shore swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, or building sandcastles together, some are searching for their next big fish story. Pack your bags – and your fishing gear – and head to San Diego’s Pier 32 in San Diego for a fishing trip of a lifetime. Don’t forget to secure a California fishing license and brush up on catch limits before heading out.

Types of Fish

Before you head out, you’ll want to check your local fishing report for the most up-to-date news on what’s biting where. When fishing the waters of San Diego Bay around Pier 32, you’re bound to hook yellowfin croaker, mackerel, calico and white sea bass, rockfish, halibut, yellow amberjack, and even tuna. You may even encounter shovelnose sharks and bat rays.

Private Marina Facilities

Pier 32 in San Diego is a private marina facility at the mouth of Sweetwater Channel of San Diego Bay. Boaters with slips at the facility have access to the facility’s private land-based amenities. Spend some time at the fitness center building the muscle it’ll take to reel in your big catch, or lounge at the pool and spa and relax tired muscles after a day of fishing. If your thirst for adventure extends to the land, there are bike trails adjacent to the marina that take you south, east, or north on other adventures. Grill up the catch of the day and enjoy it around the BBQ grills, or challenge each other to some basketball, horseshoes, or on the putting green.

Waterfront Grill

Along with other amenities offered at Pier 32, you’ll enjoy dining at the restaurant after a day of fishing. The restaurant is open daily for lunch and offers salads, wraps, burgers, sandwiches like grilled cheese and tomato or a classic French dip. Warm up with some New England clam chowder or chili, or order a snack like onion rings, house-made Old Bay chips & dip, chips & salsa, or a soup and sandwich combo. While you’ll have to wait to grill up your catch before you eat it at your accommodations, you can enjoy delicious seafood like grilled swordfish, beer battered fish & chips, a fish taco bowl, or individual fish tacos. There’s even a kids’ menu for the youngest anglers. They have a brunch menu on the weekend, that adds delicious breakfast offerings like bacon, eggs, French toast, and waffles. Make sure to celebrate a successful weekend outing at weekend happy hours with wings, sliders, calamari, and more – and don’t forget the cocktail or other alcoholic beverage.

Maritime Museum of San Diego

Either before or after you take to the waters for your own maritime adventure, learn about San Diego’s maritime history. The Maritime Museum of San Diego is a great place to learn about the city’s place in maritime history. You’ll have a chance to see historic sea vessels. Board museum-ships and submarines, many which hold permanent and temporary exhibits of everything maritime history, commerce, and exploration related to San Diego. You can even opt to take a historic bay cruise with an additional fee.

National City Golf Course

If you change your fishing pole for a golf club from time to time, you’ll want to make sure you spend some time at the National City Golf Course. It’s a beautiful course appropriate for all skill levels. The facility includes a nine-hole course, driving range, and practice putting green. The range and the putting green have lights so you can perfect both your long and short game after a fun day of fishing and water play.

Bayshore Bikeway

San Diego and the surrounding area is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise, no matter what time of year it is. Whether it’s hanging at the beach, fishing, golfing, hiking, or something else, you’ll find your outdoor fun. Rent a bike and wander the paved trail that wanders 24 miles around San Diego Bay. You’ll pass locales like Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, and Coronado, historical sites, attractions – and plenty of beautiful scenery.

Water Activities

In addition to the variety of boats you have to choose from to make your perfect fishing trip on the waters of San Diego, membership at Carefree Boat Club means the water fun never ends. If you’ve caught your limit for the day, head back in to the marina and exchange poles and bait for stand up paddleboards, tubes, wakeboards, water skis, inflatable docks, and other water toys. If your ultimate fishing trip is done, but you can’t resist boating the waters of San Diego a little more, reserve a different boat like a tritoon, cruiser, or double-decker pontoon.
