The waters that lap the San Diego shorelines are wonderful to admire from a vantage point on the beach, but for those that have a passion for maritime adventures, there’s nothing better than getting out on the waves and indulging in days under the sunshine of Southern California skies. San Diego has long been a boating enthusiast’s dream come true and with so much to see and do on the water, it’s no wonder that it only continues to grow in popularity. Part of the appeal of boating in this area also rests with the fact that it’s as thrilling as it is convenient. Boating is practically a way of life in this part of California, providing for fun extras if you know where to look. For those that are looking to combine the best of a day on the water with savory stops too, be sure to make your way towards dining at Portside Pier.
A Flavorful and Fun Experience to Enjoy
In 2015, The Brigantine, Inc, a well-known hospitality group, first proposed plans to completely refurbish and redevelop the area known as the North Embarcadero Waterfront. It would be called Portside Pier and would cover 42,000 square feet of land dedicated to creating a multi-restaurant destination where visitors, locals, and boasters could come together in the name of food, fun, and fantastic views. On July 28, 2020, Portside Pier officially opened its doors to the public and has already become an amazing stop for those that prefer to spend the majority of their time on the water.
Dock and Dining at Portside Pier Options
Portside Pier is easy to spot from the water thanks to its unique design. Built to resemble a fishing boat, the silvery steel structure towers two-levels high with a public viewing area on the second floor and includes glass structures on either end that distinctly look like fishing baskets! Boaters are invited to pull up to one of four berths before disembarking and making the most of the many savory options that await. Grab an espresso while dining at Portside Pier from Portside Coffee & Gelato, enjoy Mexico at Miguel’s Cocina, have a sit-down dinner to remember at Brigantine on the Bay, or savor a local brew at Ketch Grill & Taps. No matter what you select, this dockside dining destination is one of a kind and well worth a visiting when you’re enjoying a boating adventure in San Diego.
