The DC area is blessed with a variety of fish!
According to RoughFish.com, the Potomac River experiences a jump start of shad and herring in the fall. You should also search for school sized striped bass from 12-30 inches in “current seams that concentrate bait fish.” Bait fish is small caught used as bait. Examples are anchovies, gudgeon, halfbeaks such as ballyhoo, and scad. Also, in recent years when there has been little rain, menhaden schools will show up in DC followed by striped bass!
