And just like that, our summer dock staff has returned to school! We are excited to announce that our dockhand, Clayton Carroll, has been selected as this year’s scholarship recipient. For the past few years, we’ve been honored to offer the Patricia “Gigi” Graveline Memorial Scholarship, which allows our high school seniors and college student staff to reflect on and share what they have learned while working at Carefree through a short essay. Join us for Carefree Boat Club’s first-ever charity event, Cruise for a Cause! We are coming together on September 19th at 6:30 pm aboard the Carolina Grace yacht at Kings Point Marina to support the Charlotte YL Capernaum! Boarding starts at 6:30 pm, and we will set sail at 7:00 pm sharp. There will be appetizers and small bites available, with a cash bar for drinks. As the seasons change, so does the time of sunset! With the sun setting earlier each day, the return time for afternoon boat trips will also be earlier. To ensure you have the most up-to-date information, please check with the dock staff regarding the current return times.

Lake Norman boaters, check out the Float LKN app—it’s a great tool for navigating the lake! The app lets you save your favorite restaurants and points of interest for easy access later. You can also create and customize your locations on the map, whether it’s a peaceful cove for relaxation, a perfect wake surfing area, or a popular hangout spot. With Float LKN, you can quickly see your exact location on the lake and stay updated on the latest lake news, water levels, temperatures, and weather forecasts. The creator is also working on a version for Lake Wylie, so stay tuned!

Meet Blake, who has been a key part of our Carefree team at the Belmont location for the past year. Blake’s favorite part of the job is driving the boats—after all, who doesn’t love to take a boat for a quick spin? His top pick from the fleet is “Fishful,” the center console at Harbortowne Marina.
His favorite memories during the past year with us include meeting new coworkers and members! And, at our company party this past summer, he loved tubing with our other dockhands. He initially joined our Carefree team to gain experience and stay busy over the summer, and it has turned out to be a great fit.
Outside of work, Blake enjoys playing guitar, collecting records, and running cross-country. He shares, “This has been the perfect summer job and I have absolutely loved working for Carefree.” Next time you’re at our Belmont location, say hello to Blake!
