This guide to on-the-water activities you can enjoy when you get your name on our books will help you enjoy a summer filled with fun and fantastic adventures you will never forget.

Picnic on Deck

One of the simplest adventures that can be enjoyed when you are a member of the Carefree Boat Club is the quiet beauty of a picnic “at sea.” Pack a cooler filled with your favorite foods, a really great bottle of wine, and turn your boat in the direction of La Jolla Cove.

Offering a quiet place to enjoy the company of your favorite boating companion, our members can choose to spread a blanket out on the white sand beaches of the cove or they can simply drop anchor and dine while bobbing on the waters. The belief that you should wait 30 minutes after eating for a swim is an old wives’ tale, so why not cool off with a quick dip before heading back out to open waters?

Water Skiing for the Win

Our sports boats are the perfect choice for a day of fun on the water and although we don’t provide water ski equipment for our members, it can be rented from most water sport shops or you can purchase your own to bring with you, adding an exciting element to your summer adventures. We do provide the required life jackets, one for each member on board, so you can rest easily knowing your family will be safe as you spend the day skimming across smooth waters and maybe practicing some cool water ski tricks that will impress everyone on board with you and make you look like a professional.

Head out to Deep Waters

Summer catches may differ from the ones you can expect during other seasons, but a day spent fishing in the deep seas off San Diego is destined to be an adventure you will never forget. Our fishing boats, equipped with the latest in technology, make it easy to catch your limit, and the joy you will feel while wrestling the trophy fish into your boat will be incomparable. Tuna is the primary fish you can catch during these summer months, including yellowfin and bluefin in July, and if you want to consider an overnight trip to the Coronado Islands (yes, we allow for overnight boating adventures) it is very probable you will come home with a sizeable blue marlin.

Dock and Dine

Although you will have to step on to terra firma for this next adventure, riding the waves in a boat instead of fighting San Diego traffic to get to some of your favorite restaurants, will become one of your favorite ways to eat out. Tom Ham’s Lighthouse, 2150 Harbour Island Drive, is one of our favorite dock and dine establishments, offering delicious seafood and a lighthouse to add an extra shine to your experience, but Vessel Restaurant in the Kona Kai San Diego Resort runs a close second. Be sure to choose patio dining for ringside seats to the best show in town, the sun setting over the sea.

Sail off into the Sunset

Speaking of sunsets, Carefree Boat Club offers sailboats (and instructions on how to sail them) so why not take a sunset cruise? This romantic activity can provide the perfect spot to ask the question you have been considering asking your favorite boating companion, so stock your cooler with a bottle of champagne, a couple of glasses, and don’t forget the ring you have been carrying around in your pocket for the last couple of weeks, looking for the best spot in which to ask the most important question you will ever ask!

Just Cruise

You don’t have to have any specific plans in mind to enjoy a day on the water. Get your name on the books, invite friends or family to join in the fun, and point your boat in whatever direction you like. This last activity requires nothing more than a sense of adventure and gas in your tanks and as you ride the waves aboard the vessel of your choice, serenity, peace, and excitement will be your constant companion!
