In 2014, Carefree Boat Club network awarded its first Dock Master of the Year. This honor went to Marcia Spanick, Dock Master of the Ft. Lauderdale Carefree Boat Club.
How do we make these selections? Several criteria went into the selection process for the 2016 Dock Master of the Year. We began by soliciting nominations by club owners and recommendations by club members. The response, particularly from members, was very encouraging.
Out of these nominations and recommendations, we were specifically looking for the following qualities:
- Professionalism
- Attention to detail
- Customer service
- Communication skills
- Job Proficiency
Based on these qualities, we narrowed our search down to the two candidates. From there we broadened our research to the Google reviews from the two dock masters’ locations for the year in question. Reviews from Google were helpful and provided us with unsolicited feedback from members. A number of the reviews from each location specifically mention the quality of the dock staff, and in one case, mention one of our candidates by name. These reviews, however, were insufficient to give us a clear winner.
Having considered the nominations from owners, the email nominations from members, and the relevant Google reviews, we did an undercover phone call to each candidate. We posed as a foreign member looking to make a reservation at the candidate’s location. In this call, we were looking for the candidate to follow proper foreign reservation protocols, be able to provide local information (sights to see, fishing, etc.), and provide excellent customer service.
Look for upcoming profiles of these Dockmasters who go beyond the call and provide excellent service for all of our members. If you have a Dockmaster that you would like to recommend, click here and tell us about your favorite dockmaster!
