The newest member of the Carefree Boat Club family is located in Black Rock Harbor, in the Captain’s Cove Seaport.
Captain’s Cove is one of the largest private marinas in Fairfield County. As a member of CBC of Southern Connecticut you will have access to all of the marina’s amenities including:

Captain’s Cove is committed to becoming one of Connecticut’s largest “green marinas” by working tirelessly to help preserve our beautiful Long Island Sound.
The Bridgeport Maritime Museum can also be found within the Seaport. On display in the Queen Anne style Victorian house, built by Richard Dundon in 1893, are models, photos and artifacts that tell the story of Black Rock and Bridgeport Harbor and Connecticut’s oyster industry.
You will also find three aviation museums within Captain’s Cove Seaport. The three museums feature displays ranging from the accomplishments of Gustave Whitehead and the pioneers of early aviation to outdoor exhibits dedicated to Connecticut’s Official State Aircraft, the famous F4U-4 Corsair.

Captain’s Cove Marina is located in the beautiful Black Rock Harbor in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and offers easy access to the Long Island Sound. In just 10 minutes you can be in the sound, and the north shore of Long Island is only a 14 mile trip from the dock.
Long Island Sound (LIS) is a saltwater tidal estuary that lies between the north shore of Long Island and Connecticut and New York. The LIS is 110 miles long and 21 miles at its widest point, with depths up to 230 feet. It is a great body of water for everything from water sports, fishing, to just cruising around exploring, and everything in between.

Blackrock Harbor offers boaters with shallow, calm waters that are perfect of a variety of watersports. While the sound can get a bit choppy, the harbor is perfect for learning how to wakeboard or to take the kids tubing.
The Long Island Sound is home to many species of aquatic life, and, most of the year, presents anglers with excellent surface conditions for fishing. Please see our related Fishing in the Connecticut link for details on what you can hope to catch in the sound.
The waterfront restaurant at Black Rock Yacht Club offers patrons a variety of starters and salads, pizza, sandwiches, wraps and burgers, and a selection of fine dining entrees. You could also have a more casual experience dining in the restaurant’s gorgeous bar. No matter where you choose to eat, you will be treated to gorgeous views of Black Rock Harbor.
Port Jefferson is a deep water, protected boating destination on the North Shore of Long Island, pretty much straight across from Black Rock Harbor and Captain’s Cove Seaport. There are many attractions in the area including shopping, art galleries, markets, a children’s museum, and parks. There is also a great selection of waterfront and inland restaurants.
Smithtown Bay, just to the west of Port Jefferson, is a great boating and fishing area. The Sunken Meadow State Park makes up a majority of Smithtown Bay’s shoreline, making for a pristine coast and beautiful beaches to visit. There are a few marinas tucked in the shallow Stony Brook, and in the village center, there are some great places to eat.
Mount Sinai Harbor, a 400-acre harbor on the north shore of Long Island east of Port Jefferson, is a busy little harbor with plenty to see and do. Cedar Beach offers a gorgeous sandy beach flanked by a dense growth of cedar trees. There are a number of local restaurants, such as The Roost and Mount Sinai Yacht Club’s Grill which are located right on the water, as well as others within local villages.
Whether you’re an active certified SCUBA diver or are interested in learning about diving, Captain’s Cove Seaport is a great place to be involved with the sport. There are a handful of wreck sites local to Captain’s Cove Seaport. These sites consist of several mid-1800’s schooners, a tug boat, and barge that sank in 1984, an early 1900s schooner barge, and other unknown recently found wreckage. And don’t worry, if you are new to diving, or have never been, Orbit Marine, located in Captain’s Cove, offers dive students the ability to complete their training dives with experts at the shop.
