The moments you spend out on the water on your Carefree Boat Club vessel are destined to be some of the best ones in your life, and although real life needs may intrude at times, no one will blame you for being reluctant to come ashore! Unfortunately, jobs, school, children, nutritional needs are all objects that have the potential to interrupt your joy, and although we have no suggestions on how to incorporate your job or school into the fun you have while boating, we can help with nutrition. This guide to waterfront restaurants in San Diego will allow you to maximize your water time while keeping up your strength, and because we have done our research, we can promise that the meals these places serve will make it worth leaving the boat—for a little while, at least!
Waterfront Bar & Grill, 2044 Kettner Boulevard
Billed as San Diego’s oldest tavern, the Waterfront Bar & Grill is only open for take-out right now, but that only means you get to stay on board even longer; order your favorite pub food from your smart phone, pick it up, and enjoy it in the open air of the boat you chose for the day! There are reasons this special spot has been in existence for so long and a huge part of their success is the delicious food they serve!
Edgewater Grill, 861 W Harbor Drive
Offering casual eats, incredible views, and an opportunity to quickly regain your sea legs after the meal has been complete, the Edgewater Grill is another local favorite. They serve a seafood-focused menu, which means that although seafood is their main focus, they also offer dishes that include chicken and steak! Their brunch is super popular and is offered everyday from 9AM until 3 PM; the menu changes seasonally and offers all your classic faves, plus a few new dishes you will definitely want to try!
San Diego Pier Café, 885 W Harbor Drive
Located not far from the aforementioned Edgewater Grill, the San Diego Pier Café is famous for its affordable and delicious meals as well as its friendly ambience—and of course, those views! Recently re-opened after a brief closure (as are most restaurants these days), the blue building in which it is housed appears to be a charming home that could have once belonged to the fishermen who make their living on the waters! And because their seafood-centric menu is filled with fresh goodies that did not have to travel far from the water to your table, every fresh bite is guaranteed to be better than the last!
Mitch’s Seafood, 1403 Scott Street
Everyone needs that one place where they receive consistently good food, good prices, and good services and Mitch’s Seafood offers all that and so much more! Featuring simple dishes that were more than likely swimming in the waters just beyond your table hours earlier, it’s no hardship to leave your boat, grab a meal of fish and chips (washed down with an ice-cold beer) and a few minutes of conversation before you head back to the waters for more fun under the sun!
Waterfront Restaurants in San Diego at Covewood, 1775 E Mission Bay Drive
Located inside the San Diego Mission Bay Resort, this space offers elegance in their style and décor and menus that are fresh, innovative, and refreshingly delicious! Their breakfast buffet is always a popular choice, but no one’s feelings will be hurt when you visit for lunch or dinner instead! Go for the simple charcuterie board topped with meats, cheeses, nuts, and sweets or keep it strictly Californian with their fresh fish tacos! The choices are many in Covewood and we can tell you that we have never had a bad dish!
Top of the Market-San Diego, 750 N Harbor Drive
Top of the Market, located on the top floor of the Seafood Market, has always been the place we go when we are looking for a special night out. Offering white tablecloths, excellent service, and exquisitely prepared seafood dishes that are always fresh and sweet, it’s the perfect special occasion spot. Unfortunately for our special events, dining in has been suspended during pandemic times, but their incredible menu is still available for take-out and as we discussed earlier how nice it is to enjoy a seafood meal on your Carefree Boat Club vessel for the day, Top of the Market easily made our list! Also offering a dessert menu that we dream about every night, their Pumpkin Galette made with Sugar Pie Pumpkin, Salted Caramel, Coffee Gelato, and Fried Sage just might change your life!
