Dolphin watching
Carefree Boat Club of Hampton members get up close and personal with some of the most playful marine mammals in the sea – the Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin. Hampton is one of the largest populations of juvenile dolphins. This is one of Hampton’s most popular activities. These beautiful creatures are often seen from our lovely beach. Even more fun is experiencing the dolphins from your boat. Pods can be upward to 100! Dolphins are one of the smartest animals in the ocean. So it’s no wonder they like to visit Hampton! They are very friendly and curious. They can live up to twenty years and may grow to a length of ten feet.
Whale Watching
Imagine observing whales gliding effortlessly through the open waters of their natural habitat! This is exactly what Carefree Boat Club of Hampton member do December through March, since these are the ideal months to see the enormous and beautiful beasts known as humpbacks, as these are the times that they are migrating through the area. Listen to their beautiful whale songs and watch them feed using their bubble nets. The ocean mammals known as fin whales are the second largest animals currently alive on earth, and they migrate through the area during the winter months as well. Whales certainly can be quite the breathtaking sight to behold in person!
Watersports
You cannot go very far in Hampton without going over a body of water or under it! Waterskiing, tubing, wake boarding and more! Broad Bay as well as the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic provide the perfect venue for fun with family and friends. Carefree Boat Club of Hampton is located in Bluewater Yacht at the confluence of the Hampton River and the James River and the Chesapeake Bay.
Fishing
Fishing in Hampton is an experience you’d happily mount over your fireplace. Located at the intersection of the Chesapeake Bay, the Atlantic Ocean, and a variety of freshwater waterways, Hampton offers up a uniquely diverse range of fish and fishing destinations. Carefree Boat Club of Hampton members enjoy a bounty of coastal species and a fantastic mix of inland, freshwater adventures, it’s no wonder Hampton is considered an angler’s paradise. Carefree Boat Club of Hampton maintains a fishing license on the fishing boats!

Beaches
Hampton Virginia is comprised of three separate, and distinct, beach areas. The most famous of which is the Buckroe beach area, which sits adjacent to the Ft. Monroe beaches. Two other less known, but still beautiful options include the Dog Beach on Ft. Monroe area and the Chesapeake Bay. Huntington Beach area at the foot of the James River Bridge.
Cape Charles, Virginia’s Eastern Shore’s southernmost town, is located 10 miles north of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. Cape Charles offers a free public beach in the historic district. The beach is safe for families with small children. The shallow waters of the Chesapeake Bay, clean and refreshed by our proximity to the confluence of the Atlantic Ocean, make delightful vacations for mothers. There are no waves here. Mothers can relax here while their children splash and play in the oversized wading pools of Cape Charles beaches.
Lighthouses
The Old Cape Henry Lighthouse was built in 1792. It started to crack in 1870 and was replaced with the new Cape Henry Lighthouse only 357 feet away, which is an active aid to navigation and operated by the U.S. Coast Guard. The Old Cape Henry Lighthouse is maintained by Preservation Virginia and is a National Historic Landmark, serving as the official symbol for the City of Virginia Beach. Fireworks
Fireworks are set off from a barge off 20th St at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront twice a week from July 1 thru Labor Day. Carefree Boat Club of Hampton members watch them from the boat as the fireworks reflect off the water.
A place for all seasons
Hampton’s location in the heart of the mid-Atlantic provides great temperatures, all year long. Cool breezes off the Atlantic make those hot summer days just right. But, did you know that most guests visiting Hampton choose to do so in the off season, between Labor Day Weekend and Memorial Day Weekend. Carefree Boat Club of Hampton keeps the fleet in the water all year round! The weather is perfect and there’s always a great event going on. November and December feature miles and miles of lights during Holiday Lights at the Beach. And, don’t forget an awe-inspiring whale-watching trip from January-March!
