Bee Cave, Texas has been through quite the roller coaster of events the past few weeks. On July 11th 2021, a 41-foot boat called ‘Spare Room’ found itself immobilized on the side of the highway and remained there for 12 days. The boat was being transported on an inadequate trailer, being pulled by a truck that was not up to standard for the 40,000+ lb. vessel. After a graveyard formed during the many attempts to move the massive beast containing broken axels and destroyed wheels, it seemed that the boat might be stuck forever.
Social media erupted and followed the event closely as many became invested in the drama provided by the may failed attempts to transport the ‘Spare Room.’ A twitter account called “Bee Cave Boat” surfaced online highlighting the blunder, a petition to leave the boat on the side of the highway forever and turn it into a food truck/boat was made, and Facebook pages that gave consistent updates gained a massive following as many would Facebook Live efforts the boats journey, or lack thereof. Even local news stations made time to report on the infamous stuck boat on Highway 71.
Finally, on July 22nd, the Spare Room fiasco came to an end. The boat was moved by two cranes onto the back of a large trailer behind an 18-wheeler at an estimated cost of $10,000-$15,000. After a boatload of laughs online, the entertainment is over. And it was anything but smooth sailing.
