Contributor: Carefree Boat Club of Southern CT
We continue to prepare the fleet for the 2020 Season and wanted to provide information and relay some suggestions we hope all members will follow.
COVID-19 Procedure Update
- Please keep your crew to a maximum of six (6)
- Please boat with immediate family members
- The heads will not be available until further notice
- PFDs will be placed in a black net bag. If you use any of the PFDs do not return them to the bag. Leave them out so our Staff can clean and sanitize them properly
- We suggest, as we have in the past, that member’s purchase their own PFDs, especially for children
- Credit card payment will only be accepted until further notice
State of CT Boating Certification Class
CT requires in class training for their State Boating Certificate. After reaching out to inquire if they will be offering on-line classes in the interim, we were informed it would have to be put to the Legislature. The Legislature is not in session, so CT will not be offering on-line boating certification classes. However, for those members who are in need of getting their boating license, you can go on-line with the State of New York to complete your certification.
Get boater certified in 3 steps.
- Study and pass the $34.95 online course.
- Print your online course completion document.
- Get ready to go boating!
Click “Get Started” and create an account. Once you complete the course you will receive a Temporary Certificate. Once you receive your permanent card you can transfer your NY certificate to a CT certificate for a cost of $50. However, see below – CT does accept NY boating certificates
Certification Reciprocity:
Effective January 3, 2007, any person who possesses a Safe Boating or Personal Watercraft Operation Certificate issued by a state having an agreement of reciprocity with the Commissioner of DEEP, which states currently include Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island and New Hampshire, may now present such certificate as evidence to satisfy the educational requirements for issuance of a Connecticut Safe Boating Certificate or Certificate of Personal Watercraft Operation.
To transfer your boating certificate from NY to CT, go to the CT DEEP website.
The website is: https://portal.ct.gov/DEEP
- Click Boating & Paddling
- Click Certification and Education
- Click Online Sportsmen Licensing System
- Create an Account
Once you create your account and receive your Conservation ID, mail a copy of your Conservation ID, a copy of your permanent NY boating certificate and a letter explaining your request to the CT DEEP at the following address:

2020 Corporate Awards
We would like to take this opportunity to announce that we received the prestigious Carefree Boat Club President’s Award at this years Carefree Boat Club Owner’s conference. Thank you to all of our members! Without you taking the time to leave your feedback in the member surveys we would have not received this award! Let’s make the 2020 another record-breaking, award worthy boating season!
We hope for spectacular weather this boating season and that all members experience many more wonderful times out on the water with Carefree!
