As you begin your adventures on the “high seas” in any of our Carefree Boat Club vessels, there is one universal fact that affects every ship’s captain: the hunger of his or her passengers! Now, you could bring a cooler filled with your favorite sandwiches and beverages, but once you start to count all the money you are saving by being a member of our exclusive club, you may find yourselves wanting something a little extra. Fortunately, the epicurean delights that can be found on the San Diego landscape can also be found along the shores of the water, meaning you and your passengers and crew can enjoy a high-end meal with very little effort. This guide to San Diego’s gourmet waterfront restaurants will tantalize your taste buds!
San Diego Dining at The Marine Room, 2000 Spindrift Drive in La Jolla
Offering a sophisticated menu that blends nicely with the elegant atmosphere, this fine dining establishment is a romantic find that will make you fall in love all over again with your first mate! Built overlooking the sea, the sights and sounds of the waves crashing against the shore will be a bonus addition to the tasty treats you are enjoying; their lobster menu is one of our favorite choices for San Diego dining, but anything from here is bound to become your favorite dish!
Tom Ham’s Lighthouse, 2150 Harbor Island Drive in San Diego
As restaurants begin to open again, there are some whose reopening brings us such joy we cannot wait to share the experience with you, and Tom Ham’s Lighthouse is one of those places! Offering a seafood-centric menu that combines nicely with the waterfront views, this sweet place is elegant, luxurious, and does not cost much in comparison to some of San Diego’s other fine dining restaurants. The fact that it is built inside a lighthouse just adds to its historic charm!
Edgewater Grill, 861 Harbor Drive in San Diego
Although the atmosphere may be casual, there is absolutely nothing casual about the perfection of the food and the exquisite beauty of the views found at the Edgewater Grill. Located on the San Diego Bay, brunch is served here seven days a week, making it our favorite place on earth; we love that they realize the importance of this most under-supported meal, and our mouths water at the thought of their baked carne asada skillet made with ribeye steak!
George’s at the Cove, 1250 Prospect Street in La Jolla
We are heading back to La Jolla for one of our absolute faves, George’s at the Cove, which has re-opened for dining in only recently. And although we did love their George’s at Home takeout food, it is wonderful to be back on the purple banquettes that offer the most divine views of the water! Even better, we can’t tell you how much we have missed their rooftop restaurant and the many handmade cocktails we have enjoyed there. Viva la George’s—better days are returning!
Bali Hai Restaurant, 2230 Shelter Island Drive in San Diego
The international food landscape of San Diego offers an extra appeal for visitors and residents. Bali Hai, serving delicious Polynesian dishes, has been a popular stop for almost as long as it has been open! Impeccable service will make you happy, and the burst of flavor that explodes in your mouth with each bite of their surf and turf dishes will keep you coming back with each sail you take in our Carefree Boat Club vessels. Just looking for a snack to tide you over? Their pupu menu is filled with amazing treats, including their spinach cream cheese lumpias served with a passion orange guava sweet and sour sauce! And do not forget to order a Mai Tai! They have a running tally of how many they have sold over the years at the top of their website page; at last glance they had reached over 2,698,626!
SEA 180, 800 Seacoast Drive in Imperial Beach
The food is delicious, the service is impeccable, and the views of the sea are out of this world in this sweet seafood restaurant located in Imperial Beach. Plan your visit for sunset, if you can, and fall in love with Mother Nature’s most incredible masterpiece: the sun setting over the sea! Patio dining allows you to get even closer to the magic, but if you are celebrating something special, they offer an elegant private room surrounded by windows that will make you feel as if you are somehow dining ON the ocean without getting wet. Their weekend breakfast menu, served on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, continues through March, so get in there while you can if you want to enjoy a Burrito Desayuno created with scrambled eggs, applewood smoked bacon, pico de gallo, salsa rojo, Oaxaca cheese, and herb house potatoes.
