We have 11 brand new boats arriving within the next few weeks, and all of our boats will be in the water and ready for member use at the start of our season, on May 1st. In order to make sure that our members are ready to get out on the water at the start of the season we are dedicating the month of April to training all members. We had our first in-class training session on the evening of March 29th, and our next Basic Seamanship Seminar will be on the morning of April 1st.
We have been working with multiple Fairfield County Captains to put together a schedule so that we can get our members out on the water for training after they have completed the CT Safe Boater Course and our Basic Seamanship Seminar. The on the water sessions are private sessions for one member at a time, along with their spouse, or co-member. This will allow each session to be customized to our members’ experience and their way of learning.
Because each on the water session is available to one member at a time, and there are only 30 days in April, it is important that our members and prospective members take action now. If you have not yet joined the club, you should do so today. This will allow us to add you to the list of members awaiting training, putting you in the same boat, no pun intended, as our other members. If you have not yet received your CT Safe Boater Certificate, you must complete this step before you can get out on the water for training, however without the permit you can still complete our in class session. If you have completed everything up to the point of the on the water training, you will be at the front of the line to get on the on the water training schedule.
We want to express how important it is that our members complete these steps as soon as possible. When our season starts, our trained members will be reserving and using boats, and our training captains will have less availability. This will make it more difficult to schedule your on the water training. We want to do everything in our power to make sure that our members are confident, capable, and ready to boat at the start of the season. Help us help you get out on the water!
