Visitors and residents alike come to California’s coastal towns to enjoy plenty of rest and relaxation, and enjoy the ocean, beaches, and all year-round fun activities the west coast has to offer. While many visitors will dress in bathing suits and gather beach gear for a day full of water adventures like kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, fishing, and more, some keep their feet firmly planted on the ground building sandcastles, strolling the beach, or experiencing everything Coronado has to offer. Land or sea, there are plenty of activities to fill your time. Plan plenty of fun to add to your San Diego boat trip with Carefree Boat Club.
Fishing
No matter what time of year you’re here, the fishing is some of the world’s best. Different fish favor the waters of San Diego and the surrounding area at different times of year, so make sure that you check your local fishing report for the most up-to-date information on what’s biting where before heading out. You’ll also want to secure the proper California fishing license(s) before embarking on your voyage.
Cruise the Water
Take the helm yourself or charter a sunset cruise of the area after you’ve enjoyed the day at sea. There are several charter boats that will take you on SCUBA or snorkeling adventures, marine life spotting, and more. Take a daytime or sunset cruise and make sure to bring your camera. For charters, ask about on-board food and beverages or if you can bring your own.
Water Activities
As with any coastal town, the sand and water activities are endless in San Diego. Carefree Boat Club offers gear for the water activity of your choice. Fishing, snorkel, and SCUBA gear is available for undersea adventures. Score gear for wakeboarding, stand up paddleboarding, surfing, tubing, and other above-water activities, too.
Dock & Dine
When your stomach rumbles while you’re out at sea, take advantage of the many area restaurants that allow you to participate in the unique “dock & dine” experience. You and your crew can pull up to the dock and enjoy great food and drinks, sometimes right on board your own vessel! Slips are typically available in 2- to 3-hour slots if you prefer to dine inside an establishment. Those who don’t want to miss any time out on the water can make a to-go order and have a delicious fresh meal aboard as you head out to sea again.
Coronado Beach
Coronado and its many activities, including the beach, are a must-do during your San Diego boat trip. Coronado Beach and its pier are the perfect places to hang out and enjoy sun and fun. Pack up your beach gear and head out for a day on the sand. Play in the waves surrounding the beach as an alternative to being out on the water. Don’t forget to pack a picnic lunch and enjoy it on the shore.
Coronado Island Segway Tour
The tour starts in the historic Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego, cruises the waterfront, and boards a ferry across San Diego Harbor to the island. Make sure to bring your camera for shots of breathtaking scenery, San Diego landmarks, and historic places like Hotel del Coronado once you’re on the island.
Coronado Ferry Landing
If your day includes hanging out on Coronado for a while, include the popular tourist spot full of shopping, dining, and entertainment. Many of the restaurants offer dock & dine opportunities with picturesque views of San Diego Harbor from harborside patios. Strike out on a bike or kayak tour of the area where you’ll see landmarks like the USS Midway, Petco Park, Naval Station North Island, and many others. Shop local boutique stores for the perfect Coronado souvenir before heading back to the mainland.
Lamb’s Players Theatre
Take in a live show. One of San Diego’s leading professional and non-profit performing arts companies presents shows year-round in the iconic Spreckels Building. Check the theatre website for what’s playing during your trip and to get tickets.
Parks
While many visitors will head to the beaches and waters of San Diego and the surrounding area, there are parks and green spaces further inland. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy it under a tree or at a picnic table or park bench in the sun. Each park has its own rules and regulations for pets and activities posted near the entrance of the park.
