The most beautiful time of the year on the Connecticut Shoreline is drawing quickly upon us… leaf peeping season! Some of the best views in the state can be seen via boat. Here is your crash course in finding the best spots this fall.

The Connecticut River is never one to disappoint. Instead of taking a scenic drive this year, organize a boat trip up the river to see the leaves from a completely new perspective. Everything discussed below can be viewed from the river.

If you are looking for a boat-friendly town to stop in to, Essex is always a showstopper. From here you can hop on the Essex Steam Train or you can stop at the Connecticut River Museum before you venture on.

On your way up the river, be sure to keep an eye out for Gillette Castle. Going upstream, you will be able to see the castle on your right at the top of a hill. This is also a wonderful spot to drive to as you have a panoramic lookout over the river.

There is also the famous Goodspeed Opera House to keep an eye out for. In its history, this theater has produced over 250 musicals. For those of you who have not seen it first hand, it is a beautiful white building that butts right up to the Connecticut River.

For lunch you can stop by a local favorite, The Blue Oar. Here you can dock your boat and eat right beside the water with endless views. For those of you meat-lovers, their hamburgers are hard to beat!
