We are excited to announce our first annual members-only boat excursion! This year we will be offering our members the ability to explore new boating areas on the Connecticut River. This exciting opportunity will only be available for a limited time, and only for members of Carefree of Southern CT’s members. We will be bringing two of the boats from our fleet up to the CT River and have them available to members for four days during the week. Members who are lucky enough to reserve space on these boats will have all day to explore new waters, and take in the beauty of the CT River. We have put together a list of our favorite spots on the River below:
Blue Oar: A great waterfront restaurant, with free docking and a quaint outdoor setting, is located in Haddam. Bring cash and your own adult beverages and experience seasonal entrees, burgers and more while enjoying the CT river shoreline.
Downtown Essex: Explore downtown Essex where you can find some great restaurants and shopping in a village setting. You will find free docking at the town dock right next to the Connecticut River Museum.
Water sports: The CT River is an ideal setting for all types of water sports. For a calm, long stretch of water we recommend heading to the area sandwiched between Deep River and Lyme, right across from Selden Creek.
Selden Creek: Take a slow, leisurely cruise down Selden Creek and enjoy the scenic preserve. The waters in the Creek can get very shallow so go slow and stay alert.
Gillette Castle: Head up river to East Haddam and view Gillette Castle from the water. There is a nice, small beach right below the castle, just watch out for the Ferry.
Saybrook Point: Have a relaxing meal at Fresh Salt at the Saybrook Point Inn and take advantage of free dockage at the Marina. Right next door you will find a waterfront mini-golf course.
Hamburg Cove: A scenic anchorage. Enjoy the calm waters, free mooring and scenic shoreline.
East Haddam: Enjoy this small village surrounding the Goodspeed Opera House. There is transient dockage right in front of the Goodspeed.
Middletown: After a long, scenic cruise up river you can find transient Dockage at the Canoe Club Restaurant.
Sandbars and Local Islands: Ask us for our recommendations before you head out. There are many possibilities depending on the tides.
We only have a few open reservations left, and since we have gotten such a positive response, we are planning to offer this opportunity to our members once a year in different popular boating locations on Long Island Sound. This is just another reason why you should join Carefree Boat Club of Southern CT!
