We left Westport in search of somewhere we had never been, and we were in for a treat! Only 15 minutes west from the mouth of the Saugatuck River you will find the beautiful 5 Mile river in Rowayton. Past the Norwalk Islands and just around the corner from the historic Norwalk Lighthouse is the scenic entrance to the 5 Mile River. You will know you’re there when you are greeted by pristine beaches and some of the most impressive waterfront homes in the state.
Although it is still a bit chilly out, the waters outside of the mouth of the river look to be perfect for watersports, but don’t expect to be able to practice your slalom skiing in the river. The River is narrow and crowded in on both sides by docked and moored boats, with multi-million dollar homes overlooking it all. It is the perfect setting for a late afternoon cocktail cruise, or romantic outing.
If you plan your trip to the 5 Mile River in advance, and are looking to have a great meal, I would suggest reserving a slip and a table at The Restaurant at Rowayton Seafood. The upscale menu hosts some of the best seafood that you can get in Farifield County and the views from the dining room are spectacular. They also have a scenic outdoor patio. Remember to call in advance to reserve a slip!
Right next door to The Restaurant is Rowayton Seafood. This family owned fish market sells the same fish that The Restaurant serves. They butcher the entire fish in house so you know your getting the freshest and best fish around. Stop in and talk to Scott, he will recommend what you should bring home. Just don’t forget your cooler!
