We all need a break now and again, no matter who you are or what walk of life you come from. When some of us go on vacation, we go to ski resorts where we can fly down a mountainside before sitting cozy by a fireplace sipping hot cocoa. Others like to go someplace tropical, with large palm trees and where the cold fruity drinks flow like water. However, still others prefer to head to the beach and coast and enjoy the crashing waves, salty air, fresh seafood, and all the other wonders that come with it. If you find yourself in the last group and share a love for the ocean and coast, make sure you read on about all there is to do when you join Carefree Boat Club and spend the day with Newport Beach boating!
The Joys of the Sand
It wouldn’t be a proper California boat trip if one didn’t spend sometimes on the sands, enjoying all there is to do there. Well, while this may be true, you’ll quickly find that few beaches along the coast hold as much to do or as much natural beauty as those on Newport Beach. In fact, the beach is commonly ranked as one of the best and most beautiful in California and is even recognized as the largest recreational harbor on the West Coast! You’ll find 10 miles of coastline to walk across, hand in hand with your significant other (or perhaps your dog) as you hear your little ones up ahead laughing and playing further along the coast. However, make sure you take a plunge into the waters and enjoy the nice refreshing waters.
While in the area, make sure you take a short trip and visit The Wedge which is well revered and highly respected for the monstrous waves that occur within its confines. You won’t find your small little waves which lightly lap over you as you bob in the waters near the shore; here you will find behemoth waves that at times reach 30 feet tall! However, for this reason it is also one of the most popular surfing areas around, and you’ll often even see body surfers streaking across the blue waters. If you’ve never set foot upon a board, fear not, for there are multiple places where one can find surf lessons so that in no time at all you too can glide across the water with the salty wind in your hair. If you do visit The Wedge and decide to brave its waves make sure you keep your eyes peeled, as even the backwash is strong enough to create additional waves which causes even seasoned surfers and swimmers to occasionally be knocked down.
Even if you’ve never before ridden a wave, and don’t have any interest in doing so, it’s still worth coming to visit to watch others tackle the mighty waves and catch a breathtaking coastal sunset that any painter or photographer would feel honored to capture. End your magical day with a good old-fashioned cookout on the beach as the flickering light of the flames can add the most magical and mystical of ambiances to your growing conversation and laughter.
The Thrill of the Catch
There is plenty to do along the beaches, and even more in the way of watersports, swimming, and sunbathing. However, many comes purely for the great waters which host a multitude of fish eager to nip at your line and hook. Make sure you bring your reel—or use one of our fishing boats that comes equipped with poles—and test your skill at this relaxing pastime. You’ll find yourself reeling in a variety of different fish who call the waters home. Many find themselves the proud owners of calico bass, California halibut, white seabass, yellowtail amberjack, tuna and more! If you are looking to score the biggest catches, head to the deeper water where many a deep-sea fisherman has managed to wrest aboard yellowtails, sculpin, sea bass, perch, rockfish and more!
Beyond The Shore – Newport Beach Boating
Now that you have a good idea of all there is to do upon and around the waters edge, let us take you past the beaches into the heart of the area, where you will find a multitude of other activities to do and places to see. If you are looking for some adventure, then head over to the Crystal Cove State Park, where you can enjoy a rustic setting of the wilderness. On its southern edge you’ll find El Moro, a chaparral canyon that spreads out over a staggering 2,200 acres which includes 18 miles of hiking, biking, and even horse trails for you to explore as you get deeper and deeper into nature’s welcoming embrace. If you are looking to explore the underwater world, then make sure you go offshore just slightly and explore the 1,140-acre underwater park which is perfect for snorkelers and scuba divers alike to join the world of our aquatic brethren. If you feel like staying the night, there are several spots available for overnight camping.
We understand that while exploring the wilderness is always an enjoyable excursion, sometimes we get the urge to do some urban exploring and browse the wares of local stores or admire the talent of the city’s artists. If this is what you are looking for, head on down to Fashion Island, where you will find a large variety of stores and dining area’s perfect for you to peruse and try as the day turns into afternoon and soon evening. You’ll see both familiar faces such as Nordstrom and Bloomingdale’s, but also some less so such as Fig and Olive, CUCINA enoteca, and True Food Kitchen, as well as 30 other dining options. You’ll also find a selection of local stores and unique boutiques which are sure to have you perusing their wares late into the day.
Head on over to Corona del Mar later and enjoy all the shops and restaurants that call the area home. You’ll find such eateries as the Quite Woman, the Pirozzi Corona Del Mar, and the Zinc Café and Market. You’ll also find here the Sherman Library and Gardens which hosts 2.2 acres of horticultural oasis with beautiful blooming beds of flowers perfect for any picture. As well, after exploring the gardens, make sure you check out the Cultivar Restaurant housed there, which cooks many of its foods with pickings from the garden. Afterwards head over to the Corona tide pool where you can see all the aquatic critters left by the receding of the tide (though make sure not take anything you find and preserve the local ecosystem).
Before you come, make sure you also check the calendar as Newport is known to put on several different events through the year such as the Newport Beach International Film Festival, the Toshiba Classic, and the Esenda International Yacht Race!
