Spring is here, and summertime is right around the corner. The weather and water are warmer, school is out, the in-laws or grandchildren are coming to visit and you need a plan!
Lucky for you, family fun in Annapolis is easy to find.
The Chesapeake Bay has many hidden gems that boaters could spend a lifetime exploring. The Annapolis area of the bay has many creeks and rivers that provide a wide range of activities depending on your interests. Going for a boat ride is the type of family fun that can both entertain and reconnect you and your loved ones.
A day trip boating along Spa Creek is a go-to, timeless activity that never gets old. Don’t forget your binoculars–they’ll bring you even closer to all of the wildlife you’ll see along the way! We suggest packing a lunch and enjoying an on-the-water picnic, or coordinate your itinerary to include one of the many dock-and-dine cafes along Spa Creek.
Boaters may also enjoy a maneuver through Ego Valley within Spa Creek, where you can find many luxurious boats lining the seawall (hence the name Ego Valley!). Boaters can also dock and enjoy the many shops and museums found along the City Dock in Annapolis.
Sweet Treats at Storm Bro.’s Ice Cream Factory:
As one local Annapolis blogger tells it, her visit to Storm Bro.s always includes enjoying a mocha chip ice cream on the red bench outside of the shop; “listening to the ducks and feeling the sun on my face, ah, life doesn’t get much better.”
Birding in Annapolis:
Annapolis is known for being home to a variety of bird species, and has many scenic places to observe and enjoy them. Here are 2 of our favorite spots:
Quiet Waters Park, located on the shores of the South River. Visitors may arrive via car where they can park and tour the park by foot, or you can view its beauty from the water by boat!
Sandy Point State Park is located on the western edge of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. This park is also accessible via car, but visitors can enjoy stunning views of the bay and wildlife from the water.
Have you captured a photograph of a bird in flight or perched? Share it with us on Facebook or Twitter.
Whether you are a seasoned waterman or a beginner, fishing and crabbing is a great activity for the whole family to enjoy. There are many marinas in Annapolis that have experienced dock staff that are happy to help you get the resources you’ll need for a successful fishing or crabbing trip.
Visit the Artfarm:
This is a large, open studio space that offers a wide range of classes for all ages. Classes include a kids art class, guitar class, photography workshops and more. The studio also hosts visionary events and has a wonderful gallery space available to local artists.
