Independence Day is right around the corner and in addition to it being America’s 240th birthday, July 4th also marks the peak of summer fun. For folks with access to a boat, July 4th is prime time to celebrate America on the water. There are so many activities in the DC/Annapolis area this time of year that are accessible by boat, you don’t have any excuse not to get out on the water and partake in Independence Day festivities!
We’ve done the hard work of rounding up several great ways to enjoy your time on the DC/Annapolis waterways this month. Don’t have a boat, but want to enjoy some time out on the water this 4th of July? Consider becoming a Carefree Boat Club member. Your membership will get you unlimited access to a wide variety of boats without the hassle of maintenance and storage. Now that’s what we call freedom.
Downtown fireworks without the hassle
Watch the downtown DC fireworks without the hassle of driving, parking and schlepping out to the National Mall this year by viewing the fireworks from the Potomac River. Drop your anchor near the Marine Corps War Memorial for a perfect view of the light show and relax on your private, water-locked retreat.
Be a part of the crowd
Do you enjoy crowds of patriotic people all “oohing” and “aahing” in unison? Then take your boat to the Georgetown waterfront district and drop into Tony and Joe’s Seafood, which has ample outdoor space to enjoy fireworks or just a lazy Saturday afternoon this summer.
Sing along in Annapolis
The United States Naval Academy Band’s Concert will be held at 8:00pm at the Susan Campbell Park, City Dock in Annapolis on July 4th. This park sits along the Annapolis Harbour off the Severn River, which means if you drop anchor close enough, you’ll be able to hear the band play classic patriotic songs and band literature while enjoying the view of the water. Around 9:15 that night the fireworks will be set off right in the Annapolis Harbor, so stick around for the light show without getting stuck in traffic.
Nationals vs. Brewers
The Nationals will be in town all July 4th weekend and will play the Brewers at 11:05am on the 4th. The National’s Park is located right on the waterfront of the Anacostia River with ample boat docking near the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail. Take the boat out for the day and catch a baseball game with the family – there’s nothing more American than that!
